The Head of Al-Bayda Security Directorate, Khalid Al-Basta, submitted his resignation and transferred his duties to his deputy, days after he was interrogated in Al-Rajma - Khalifa Haftar forces' headquarters.

According to sources close to Al-Basta, the reason for his resignation comes against the backdrop of his objection to the kidnappings and the arrest campaign launched by the Benghazi Internal Security Agency inside the city following the Al-Ahly and Al-Akhdar match in the Libyan Football League in the city.

The Benghazi Internal Security Agency arrested the Head of Al-Akhdar Club Fans Association, Atef Al-Dressi, in front of his house in the city of Al-Bayda, and summoned Al-Basta and Ayman Al-Barasi, the Director of Central Support, for investigation in Benghazi, threatening to arrest them if they did not comply with the summoning order immediately.

The match between Al-Akhdar and Al-Ahly Benghazi teams, in Al-Bayda, witnessed protests that appeared in circulated video clips in which the fans chanted slogans against Khalid Haftar, son of Khalifa Haftar, in the stands of the stadium, and tore down photos of Khalifa Haftar.

Al-Bayda witnessed other protests after the match of Al-Akhdar and Al-Hilal in Benghazi was canceled as the former’s delegation and its fans were subjected to an armed attack in Benghazi.
