The Minister of Interior in the Government of National Unity, Emad Al-Trabelsi, called on Italy to provide support for the voluntary repatriation of immigrants to their countries of origin, and to support the Libyan security units and enhance their capabilities in combating illegal immigration.
This came during a meeting in his office at the Ministry of Interior in Tripoli, on Sunday, with the Italian Ambassador to Libya, Gianluca Alberini, and his accompanying delegation.
The Ministry of Interior said that Al-Trabelsi discussed with Ambassador Alberini the prospects of joint security cooperation between Libya and Italy, with a focus on the issue of illegal immigration and its repercussions on the two countries. The two sides also discussed ways to reduce the flow of illegal immigrants and support the efforts of the Libyan Ministry of Interior in combating this phenomenon.
Al-Trabelsi briefed the Italian ambassador on the efforts of the Ministry of Interior, which is working to increase the pace of voluntary repatriation operations, calling for intensifying international efforts to support these efforts and make this program a success.
The Anti-Illegal Immigration Authority of the Ministry of Interior continues to deport illegal immigrants who are arrested in various regions of Libya, within the framework of the voluntary return program that is being implemented in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration.
