The Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Stephanie Koury, met with a delegation from the city of Gharyan on Sunday to discuss the current political situation in Libya. The talks focused on the opportunities and challenges facing the country, as well as their implications for citizens.

The delegation included members of the House of Representatives, the High Council of State, local government representatives, academics from Gharyan University, women, youth, and other influential leaders. During the meeting, Koury emphasized the importance of Gharyan's historical role in reconciliation efforts and its reputation as an educational hub.

The delegation shared their views on key priorities for the UN-led political process in Libya, highlighting the urgent need for national elections, the unification of state institutions, and the establishment of a permanent constitution.

Koury reaffirmed the UN's commitment to facilitating a dialogue-driven solution to Libya’s crisis while acknowledging the critical role of local leadership in achieving sustainable peace.
