Libya's ambassador to the Netherlands, Ziyad Daghim, said that Libya will give pleading against the Israeli entity before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) next May. Daghim added in a statement to Al-Wasat Channel that Libya is the only Arab and Islamic country so far that has officially joined South Africa under Article 62 of the Court's Statute.
Article 62 allows "states that believe they have a potential legal interest in the case to submit a request to join, provided that the court approves the request. This requires submitting evidence proving the existence of a legal interest that may be affected by the outcome of the case. If approved, the joining state is allowed to participate in the sessions, submit written and oral interventions, and make comments on legal points."
On January 19, the Head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Menfi, announced Libya's official joining of South Africa in the case filed before the International Court of Justice regarding genocide in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli entity had previously submitted its observations and defenses against the Libyan lawsuit memorandum submitted, but the Libyan side refuses to respond to everything issued by the entity due to its lack of recognition of it in any direct or indirect way.
On February 22, Libya presented a plea before the International Court of Justice regarding the violations of the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian territories. The Libyan plea was presented by legal expert Ahmed Al-Jahani, who reviewed the violations of the Israeli occupation forces and authorities against Palestinians and the Palestinian territories that have been ongoing for decades.
