Minister of Interior of the Government of National Unity, Imad Al-Tarabulsi, has discussed with the British Ambassador to Libya, Martin Longden, ways to develop training and rehabilitation programs for Libyan police personnel and security challenges in Tripoli, in addition to the liberties file.

Al-Tarabulsi received the British Ambassador to Libya on Sunday at the Ministry of Interior in Tripoli, in the presence of the Director of the Minister's Office, Maj. Gen. Abdul Wahid Abdul Samad, and the Minister's Advisor.

The Ministry of Interior posted on its Facebook page that the meeting discussed prospects for security cooperation between the ministry and the United Kingdom, with focus on enhancing coordination in combating illegal immigration and developing joint strategies to reduce the flow of migrants across the Mediterranean.

The ministry added that the two sides also discussed ways to develop training and rehabilitation programs for Libyan security personnel, ensuring that their professional competence is enhanced in accordance with international standards, to enhance the ministry's capabilities in facing current security challenges. 

They also discussed a number of security issues of common interest, including combating terrorism, organized crime and arms smuggling, in addition to enhancing cooperation in the field of intelligence exchange.

The British Ambassador to Libya described his discussions with Trabelsi as useful and said on his X account that they focused "on a range of issues, including security challenges in Tripoli and the rights and freedoms of all Libyan citizens."

The meeting wound up by the two sides stressing the importance of exchanging expertise and developing effective cooperation mechanisms that contribute to achieving stability and security in Libya and the region, Ministry of Interior added.

The two sides also expressed keen interest in joint cooperation and intensify ongoing coordination to ensure the success of joint security efforts, in a way that serve the interests of the two countries and contribute to the stability and security of the region, it concluded.
