Libya’s top religious cleric has called all Muslims to go on mass protests against US President Donald Trump’s plan to declare Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
During his weekly program on Tanasuh TV, Grand Mufti Sheikh Al-Sadiq Al-Gharyani said “the Jewish takeover of Jerusalem is a crime against Muslims and Christians.”
President Trump is expected to announce on Wednesday that the United States recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and will relocate the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Trump’s planned move has stirred worldwide anger from Muslim and Christian nations.
Muslim leaders warned Trump of such a move, which they said would constitute a flagrant provocation to all Muslims.
Pope Francis has urged Trump not to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital respect the status quo on the city, and to conform with UN resolutions.
