The President of the General National Congress, Nuri Abu Sahmain, strongly condemned the siege around Al-Kufra city and the blocking of roads as well as starving the residents there to press the city into surrender to attackers, saying that such acts are outright war crimes against Libyan citizens.
In a statement Saturday, Abu Sahmain said those who took part in the siege and those who brought mercenaries and set them up in checkpoints that made them control the main roads to the city are partners and major convicts in this heinous crime.
“The international community and the African Union must act properly and do their jobs as to save Libya’s sovereignty from infiltrators and take actions against militiamen and leaders, who took part in these repetitive assaults on Al-Kufra and other cities in Libya.” The statement reads.
Abu Sahmain also called on judicial authorities to document the crimes and preserve the evidence of what is happening in Al-Kufra and consider the siege a crime against all Libyan civilians.
Meanwhile, Al-Kufra revolutionaries' brigade of the General Staff in the Salvation Government, Tripoli, has been clashing toughly with a group of Sudanese mercenaries affiliated with Justice and Equality Movement and Minni Minnawi rebels, who have good ties with Khalifa Haftar.
On Thursday, Al-Kufra revolutionaries attacked the Sudanese rebel-held checkpoint of Bu Zarig, leaving dozens killed and others injured.
