The Local Council of Derna in eastern Libya has sent a distress call for all local and international organizations, UN, Arab League, African Union and others to help the civilian population amid deteriorated humanitarian conditions.

“It is disastrous here. Living conditions are deteriorating. There is no food, medicines, oxygen and fuel for hospitals. It is all because of the siege of self-styled army of Khalifa Haftar.” The Local Council said.

It added that there is nothing the council could do for the besieged population and that the war on the city must be stopped as all of the people are in a great state of panic and horrification.

“All the organizations and international community should break the siege on the city by opening the routes to the city’s port as it is the quickest way for allowing basic needs into Derna after Haftar’s forces closed all land entrances.” The council explained.

Haftar’s forces have been escalating military operations on the outskirts of Derna in order to advance into the city center and seize control after a tightened siege for over two years.
