The President of Niger, Mohamed Bazoum, called on the Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah to consult on convening the Community of Sahel–Saharan States' summit and to organize the gathering games to be held in Tripoli, according to Dbeibah's media office. The remarks came in a letter from Bazoum delivered by Niger's ambassador to Libya, in a meeting with Dbeibah on Wednesday in Tripoli.
Dbeibah announced on December 19 that necessary measures would be taken as Libya's capital Tripoli awaited the imminent return of the General Secretariat of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (SEN-SAD).
The Government of National Unity called in March 2022 for the return of the General Secretariat of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States to its headquarters in the capital, Tripoli, but the final statement issued by the Executive Council of the Community, which was held in the Moroccan capital Rabat on March 28 and 30, made it clear that the decision to determine the headquarters fell within the exclusive authority of the conference of heads of state or governments, thus deciding to hold the next summit in 2023, and announced at the time sending a mission to Libya to assess the security situation in Tripoli.
