The Italian Nova News Agency said that Libya ranked first in the number of immigrants heading to Italy from the beginning of 2024 until July 5. It added that approximately 14,755 illegal immigrants arrived on Italian shores from Libya during the first half of the year.

The agency indicated that the number of immigrants recorded a decrease of 47% on an annual basis compared to the same period last year.

Tunisia ranked second in the number of immigrants, with 10,247 illegal immigrants, a rate of 71% on an annual basis as well.

Nova reported that departures from the Libyan coast were mostly from the western region, while only 583 immigrants arrived from the eastern region.

Regarding the nationalities of the immigrants, the report said that more than 5,000 people were from Bangladesh and over 3,000 people were from Syria, in addition to people from Egypt, Pakistan, Mali, and Gambia.
