Representatives of Libyan political parties and civil society organizations who met at the “First National Forum” reaffirmed their commitment to national dialogue and consensus to resolve the country’s crisis.

The participants announced several key principles, including the importance of building a civil and democratic state based on an integrated partnership between political parties and civil society, while maintaining the independence of each.

The statement stressed the need for civil society organizations to play a role in monitoring power and contributing to enhancing transparency and accountability without seeking political power. It called for building bridges of communication between the different parties and embracing differences as part of the national identity, stressing their support for the efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya to achieve national consensus and reach parliamentary and presidential elections.

The forum announced the formation of the “Cooperation Council between Political Parties and Civil Society Organizations” with the aim of enhancing dialogue on public policies and national issues, consolidating democratic values, and building trust among the parties.

According to the statement, the Council shall manage effective communication, present strategic proposals, and develop practical plans to achieve the common goals of the parties. The participants in the forum called on all stakeholders, including politicians, institutions and citizens, to join this national effort and work together to build a homeland of security, stability, justice and development.
