The Presidential Council (PC) called on the UNSMIL and the rest of the international community to take more practical measures to end the war and protect civilians in Tripoli, urging the UN Security Council to take up its responsibility in this regard.
“All warring parties must drop weapons and end military escalations to save the lives of civilians.” The PC said in a statement Saturday, saying it knows the needed security, economic and military reforms.
It also condemned the continued fighting and targeting of civilian properties as well as those of the state, calling on mayors and elders from across Libya to exert more efforts to reconcile parties and commit them to the ceasefire truce reached in Al-Zawiya on September 04.
“Despite hindrances by some parties, the PC is continuing to implement the reforms and the latest approved measures are just the starting point.” The PC’s statement reads.
Clashes in Tripoli continued through Saturday in different districts as the Tripoli Protection Force advanced on Yarmouk camp that was controlled by the Seventh Brigade over the last days.
Random rockets and artillery shells continued as well to fall on public and private properties with eyewitnesses saying one shell fell in Ben Ashour Street, leaving no human loss. While another shell fell inside Mitiga Airport and yet another one fell in Sherfet Malaha nearby the airport.
The aftermath of the clashes reached 10 killed and 59 injuries as well as one missing person, the field hospital of the injured affairs department reported.
“Five civilians, one military fighter, one foreign worker, and three unidentified persons.” The hospital said.
The department of the injured also evacuated 15 families trapped in Khalit Al-Furjan and near Yarmouk camp after receiving a distress call through the emergency and ambulance apparatus.
In the days between August 26 and September 21, the death toll hit 106 and the injuries reached 518, while 18 are still missing and 149 families evacuated and 264 others assisted.
