The Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Mustafa Şentop, affirmed that Libya's unity and territorial integrity are among the priorities of the Turkish Republic.

This came during his meeting with the President of the High Council of State (HCS), Khaled Al-Mishri, in Istanbul on the sidelines of the Inter-Parliamentary Conference organized by the International Union of Parliaments, in cooperation with the Turkish National Assembly, on migration and refugees, according to the HSC media office.

Şentop expressed his country's firm support for the Libyan people, and briefed Al-Mishri on the efforts made to arrange the reopening of the Turkish Consulate in Benghazi and the resumption of Turkish Airlines flights to Tripoli. Şentop affirmed his satisfaction with the efforts made between the House of Representatives and the HCS to reach consensus on sound constitutional and legal foundations, in preparation for realizing the electoral due process that all Libyan people aspire to, praising the role played by the HCS in this regard.

For his part, Al-Mishri underscored that Libya is one of the countries that suffers most from the problems of migration along its shores towards the European Union countries.

He also briefed Şentop on the outcomes of the meetings of the constitutional track between the House of Representatives and the High Council of State held under the auspices of the UN mission in Libya in the Egyptian capital Cairo. He underlined the HSC position on the current political stalemate and its vision for the way out, through organizing elections on sound constitutional and legal grounds that renews the country's political legitimacy and ends the transitional phases.
