Turkish engineers from Enka company have arrived in Ubari to resume work at the city’s gas power plant.
The Friday arrival of the Enka Turkish staffers was perceived by a delegation comprised of the Chairman of the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) Abdelmajid Hamza, and the GECOL’s CEO, Ali Sassi, as well as board members appointed by the Presidential Council (PC) of the UN-proposed government.
The Enka engineers’ visit is part of the agreement with Turkish authorities to resume work at Ubari plant after two years of suspension, knowing that the plant is 10% away from completion.
According to the PC’s media office, the Turkish engineers who arrived in Ubari are of high professionalism and will be doing some checkups at the gas power station then make a report about it in one week.
Several officials, mayors and southern Tobruk MPs were present as the Enka team arrived in Ubari to resume the project that would cover the power demand of southern Libya as a whole with a capacity of 660 megawatts.
The clashes between Tuareg and Tubu in Ubari in the summer of 2014 led to the halt of Enka’s work at the gas power plant.
