The Central Security Department (CSD) in the Old Town recovered on Saturday some artifacts stolen from an ancient house that belongs to the Karamanli’s family.
The media office of the CSD said its personnel retrieved the stolen artifacts from one of the culprits who had previous criminal records in the Old Town.
“After interrogating him, the thief also guided the police to other stolen objects he sold to one of the antiques businessmen in the Old Town.” The CSD media office added.
It also explained that the thief is now held at the CSD’s headquarters awaiting for sending him to be tried at the Tripoli court.
Karamanli family’s house is an ancient heritage that dates back to the beginning of the nineteenth century. After the rule of the Karamanli’s family was toppled over and during the Italian occupation of Libya, the house became a headquarters for the consulate of the Italian Tuscany Kingdom.
However, later on after the independence of Libya, the house was turned into a museum that showcases the artifacts inside it, which all bear a resemblance to the lifestyle the family of Karamanli used to lead.
