The new President of the High Council of State, Khaled Al-Mishri, said Sunday that he is ready to reach out to the House of Representatives in order to address the political stalemate.

In his first statement as president, Al-Mishri made clear that the transitional phase must end as soon as possible, stressing his intention to get the country to the permanent constitutional stage.

Al-Mishri was elected President of the High Council of State on Sunday by 64 votes, defeating his opponent, the former President Abdul Rahman Sewehli, who won 45 votes.
