Security forces in Sabratha have arrested a gang of foreign nationals accused of smuggling vehicles from Libya to Algeria via illegal border crossings, the city’s Security Directorate has confirmed.
Authorities seized a Libyan-registered vehicle prepared for smuggling, along with forged vehicle registration booklets, customs documents, and license plates linked to previously smuggled cars.
Investigators also recovered fake identity documents, including Libyan ID cards and personal photos, allegedly used to produce fraudulent vehicle registrations.
A sum of Libyan currency was also confiscated. One suspect admitted receiving the money as payment for a prior smuggling operation.
The arrests come amid intensified efforts by Libyan authorities to combat cross-border crime and illegal trafficking networks.
