The Director of Livestock Department in Jabal Al Akhdar, Saleh Boumubaraka, has announced that 25 cases of foot-and-mouth disease had been recorded among cows and the death of more than 10 young calves, in light of the lack of medicines to combat the disease so far.

In media statements, Boumbaraka explained that the Environmental Sanitation Agency, more than two weeks ago, stopped inspecting meat and cows before slaughter, and sealing valid meat, due to lack of capabilities and lack of assistance from the competent authorities.

He pointed out that infections in the city of Al-Bayda are widespread and have now spread to the municipality of Omar Al-Mukhtar and its neighbouring areas, and that infections is 70%, and mortality is increasing significantly, not to mention miscarriages and infertility due to the disease. Cases of lumpy skin disease have exceeded 530, and more than 65 have died over two months.
