Local residents in Tobruk city have expressed their dissatisfaction with the Egyptian authorities’ decision to raise the fees imposed on Libyans entering Egypt via the Salloum land border crossing.

The residents said in a statement on Friday that the Egyptian government had doubled the entry fees, equivalent to 200 US dollars, in addition to increasing other fees under terms that the people considered offensive to the Libyan people who "have social relations with Egypt."

The residents called on the relevant authorities in Libya to look into the matter and reactivate the transportation agreements between the two countries that were signed in early 1990.

The Egyptian authorities imposed in April 2023 financial amendments and slapped new fees on Libyan citizens travelling to Egypt.
