The European Union Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, has called on Libyan parties to engage in the mediation of the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, urgently leading to the general elections.

This came during his meeting on Tuesday with the caretaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Al-Taher Al-Baour, according to a tweet on his account on the X platform.

Orlando said: “We reviewed several files of common interest, including the results of the recent European Union mission on migration and my fruitful visit to Misrata.” 

The EU ambassador expressed hope that Libyan stakeholders will engage urgently and in good faith in the mediation efforts of the UN envoy, Abdoulaye Bathily to maintain unity and stability of the country and its leadership leading to the national elections, as he put it.
