The EU’s Foreign Policy Chief, Josep Borrell, has expressed the block's readiness to cooperate in monitoring the ceasefire in Libya.

Borrell denied, during his visit to Rome on Friday any agreement at the current stage to engage Operation IRINI in the monitoring process, explaining that any European participation must be upon an international request.

The EU official pointed out that the IRINI mission, which completed its first year on Thursday, was launched before the Libyan ceasefire agreement, insisting that it had achieved great successes despite the challenges.

On the issue of sending an EU envoy to Libya, Borrell said that there are many names on the list, indicating he will present his candidate to the EU member states in the coming days.
