The Children Hospital for Medicine and Surgery in Benghazi said that a rare surgery was performed for a one-day-old child as he was diagnosed with a large mass in the stomach that turned out to be a fetus.

The Hospital's media office said after conducting the necessary examinations of ultrasound and CT scans, doctors found that the mass had multiple structures, and it consisted of “bones, fat and tissues” in the abdominal cavity.

The Hospital added that the diagnosis was called “a fetus within a fetus,” and that it was a very rare condition that occurred once in 500,000 births in the world. It added that the mass was completely removed by Libyan doctors and that the infant was in a good health condition.
