The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity has welcomed the African Union’s permanent membership of the G20, during the group’s summit held in New Delhi, India, on Saturday.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised “this step, which will allow the African Union to effectively express the aspirations of the African people, contribute to dealing with international challenges, and present Africa’s vision derived from its unified positions and its keen interest to build a just and stable world.”

The Ministry stated that the achievement of this continental success and the actual AU presence in the G20, coincides with the anniversary of the proclamation of the founding of the African Union in the city of Sirte, where the common desire and African political will emerged on the pivotal role of the African continent.
