Menfi

‎The Head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Menfi, called for empowering Africa to have fair representation in the permanent and non-permanent membership categories at the Security Council.

‎Menfi's words came during a meeting of the Committee of Heads of States and Governments of the African Union on Security Council Reform on the sidelines of the 38th session of the African Union Assembly, on Saturday, in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

‎The Presidential Council said on its Facebook page that Menfi had stressed the need to maintain the unified African position on reforming the Security Council in accordance with the Azzolini Consensus and the Sirte Declaration, in a way that leads to "lifting the historical injustice that befell Africa."

‎Menfi called for enabling Africa to be present in the Security Council, and stressed moving forward in discussions with the five permanent members of the Security Council and other stakeholder groups to empower the countries of the African continent within the Council.

The Azzolini Agreement was reached in a meeting held in central Swaziland in 2005, when African countries agreed to reform the United Nations, and said that Africa would be represented in it like all other regions of the world. As for the Sirte Declaration, it is the declaration that included issuing a decision to establish the African Union during the meeting of the Organization of African Unity on September 9, 1999 in the city of Sirte in the presence of African leaders.
