The Tripoli Court of Appeal has ruled to imprison four former officials of a Sahara Bank branch after convicting them of embezzling two million and 380 thousand dinars, the Attorney General’s Office announced on Friday.

A statement by the Public Prosecution said: “The Public Prosecution charged the four convicts after accessing customer accounts system of a bank’s branch, and intended to embezzle the said amount by approving banking operations conducted on customer accounts that took the form of cash withdrawals using bank cheque numbers not listed in the bank’s system, and making internal bank transfers without account holders requests.”

The court ruled to imprison two of the former officials for four years, and the other two for three years, fining them all twice the embezzled amount, and requiring them to return the embezzled amount.
