The National Committee for Human Rights in Libya has expressed its condemnation of the "kidnapping and arbitrary detention" of the former Minister of Finance, Faraj Boumtari, by members of the Internal Security Service at Mitiga Airport, as well as preventing a number of members of the High Council of State from traveling.

In a statement, the committee confirmed that the fate and whereabouts of Boumtari are still unknown, expressing its fear for his safety, which constitutes a crime punishable by the Libyan Penal Code.

The committee said that the restrictions and obstacles to freedom of travel and movement for members of the High Council of State, who enjoy immunity in accordance with the law, represent "the most heinous forms of human rights violations, undermining the rule of law, and confiscating citizenship rights and public freedoms."
