Talks between Libya and Italy have advanced plans for a new submarine cable project aimed at linking four major Libyan cities along the Mediterranean coast.
The discussions were led by Libya’s Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs, Walid Al-Lafi, and Sparkle CEO, Enrico Maria Bagnasco, during the Digital Connectivity in the Mediterranean Conference in Palermo.
According to the government platform "Hakometna," the talks centered on implementing a memorandum of understanding signed in June 2023 between Sparkle and Libya’s General Post and Telecommunication Holding Company.
The project will establish advanced digital connectivity between Tripoli, Misrata, Benghazi, and Derna.
