The US military website, Global Firepower (GFP), which specializes in ranking military forces, has ranked Libya 80 out of 145 countries, for the year 2023.

Libya came at the bottom of a late ranking among the Maghreb countries, as Algeria ranked 26th globally, followed by Morocco 61st, Tunisia 73rd, and Mauritania at the end of the list ranked 132nd.

Each country was assessed on an individual and group basis, and is processed through an internal formula to generate strength index scores.

Libya ranked 53 out of 142 countries in the military spending index, which was estimated at $3.4 billion in 2022.
