The head of the Presidential Council (PC), Mohamed Menfi, has welcomed the International Court of Justice's (ICJ) binding decision requiring Israel to halt its military operations in Rafah and to open the Rafah border crossing.

The ruling also mandates Israel to take measures to ensure a ceasefire throughout the Gaza Strip.

Menfi shared his remarks on his X account, emphasizing that "just humanitarian legal decisions strengthen faith and confidence in international institutions, charters, and humanitarian laws, paving the way for the Palestinian people to achieve their statehood in line with the Arab Peace Initiative from the Beirut Summit in 2002."

The ICJ President announced on Friday that 13 judges voted in favour of halting Israel's military actions in Rafah, citing concerns over the worsening living conditions of Palestinians in the besieged territory.
