Security forces in Zawiya came under heavy gunfire while on a mission to raid fuel smuggling dens on Tuesday.
The Security Directorate of Zawiya said a patrol affiliated with the joint security room survived a shooting on the high road near the Zawiya refinery bridge.
The incident occurred during rush hour as people were traveling home from work, which generated panic and fear and led to a big traffic jam.
The security directorate denounced the "disgraceful act" and said it was to protect corruptors and outlaw gangs.
