A patrol of the Western Military Region foiled an attempt to smuggle 20,000 litres of fuel on the Qurayat-Shwerif road sowth west of Libya on Sunday.
"The Shwerif Brigade of the Western Military Region managed to seize a truck smuggling 20,000-liters of fuel after setting up a well-executed ambush on the desert road near the Qurayat area during the iftar period," the media centre of the force disclosed on its Facebook account.
It confirmed that the truck driver is doing well and receiving treatment in hospital after his vehicle collided on the highway linking Qurayat-Al-Shwerif.
The statement noted that the security team handed over the driver's belongings to his family, including an amount of money estimated at 16,000 dinars.
