The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNISCO) announced the arrival of a delegation of its experts to Libya based on a request recently submitted by authorities in Libya.
A news report published by UNISCO confirmed that the experts would cooperate closely with the UN Support Mission in Libya, the United Nations system as a whole, and the Libyan authorities to assist in the recovery process after Storm Daniel, especially in the fields of education and heritage protection.
The report indicated that UNISCO experts would visit the archaeological site of Cyrene in the city of Shahat to initially assess the flood damage and the facilities’ need for urgent support, in addition to inspecting other heritage sites in Cyrenaica: the archaeological cities of "Ptolemais and Apollonia and Hawa Fteah Cave."
