The US Chargé d’Affaires to Libya, Jeremy Berndt, met with Parliamentary Speaker Aqila Saleh on Monday to discuss efforts to unify domestic and international support for Libya’s political process.
The talks, held in the city of Al-Qubah, east of Libya focused on overcoming divisions and creating conditions for successful national elections, according to a statement from the US Embassy.
The embassy also highlighted the importance of protecting the independence of Libya’s technocratic institutions and ensuring fair and transparent management of state revenues across all regions.
Saleh’s office emphasized the need for a unified government with clear timelines to pave the way for presidential and parliamentary elections under the guidance of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
