The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, reiterated the need for foreign mercenaries to leave Libya, welcoming the new authorities in Libya, and stressing the importance of national elections in December of this year.
This came during a virtual meeting with the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, as it was agreed to continue close coordination between the United States and the United Nations on these and other matters.
Blinken also pledged to provide full support to the UN Special Envoy, Jan Kubis, and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
