A team from the General Department of Environmental Sanitation Affairs conducted a visit to the municipality of Zliten to follow up on the phenomenon of rising groundwater levels, identify water ponds and swamps, and verifying information indicating the spread of insects as a result of stagnant water in ponds in a number of areas of the municipality.
During this visit, the team toured a number of areas and was briefed on the existing capabilities used in spraying operations.
During the course of the visit, the Director General of the General Department of Environmental Sanitation Affairs convened a meeting in which he directed that the area be divided into work areas, determine the number of ponds in each area, and discussed the possibility of covering such ponds with sand in order to break the mosquito “larvae” reproductive life cycle.
