The acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Taher Al-Baour discussed with the Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen the lifting of the ban on Libyan flights in European airspace.
The meeting between Al-Baour and Rasmussen, which came on the sidelines of their participation in the 21st session of the meeting of foreign ministers of African and Nordic countries held in Copenhagen, discussed inviting Danish companies specialized in the fields of renewable energy to support development projects in Libya, as well as strengthening bilateral relations. Al-Baour urged the Danish embassy to resume its work from the capital, Tripoli.
The Foreign Ministry statement indicated that the meeting touched on the exchange of views on various regional and international issues, and developments in the political situation in Libya.
Al-Baour arrived last Thursday in Copenhagen to represent Libya in the meeting of foreign ministers of African countries and their counterparts from northern European countries, which was hosted by the Danish capital. On the sidelines of the meeting, he met with his counterparts from Norway and Ugandan.
It is noteworthy that on December 11, 2014, the European Commission banned the passage of planes belonging to Libyan airliners over the airspace of European Union member states for reasons related to safety controls in the country that witnesses security tensions from time to time.
Meanwhile, last year saw a breakthrough regarding this ban, as flights resumed between Libya and Italy on the one hand and Malta on the other, with expectations from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Government of National Unity that the European ban would be lifted in 2024.
