60 political parties denounced the continued cases of kidnapping, forced disappearance, and extrajudicial detention, as well as the cases of silencing and oppression of civil activists across the country, expressing their dismay over the cancellation of a dialogue session by the Libyan National Assembly Party, which it intended to organize at the General Teachers Syndicate in the capital, Tripoli.
The parties said in a statement on Monday that building a modern civil state requires the existence of independent and effective civil movements such as political parties, civil organizations, and social movements that live among the people and express their aspirations and hopes for a nation where justice and law prevail, and where they live with pride and dignity.
They said they had taken note of the attempts of political parties to develop a Libyan project to end the Libyan crisis, address the causes of the conflict, and move toward the basic issues and topics that concern the present and future of Libya as well as its generations in political, economic, social, cultural, and service fields, in a way that contributes to raising community awareness and the participation of citizens in determining their future.
The parties called for the independence of party work, trade unions and civil organizations to be preserved, and that they get protected from all forms of interference in their internal affairs and work, and their tasks in developing their cadres and national programs as long as they do not go beyond the frameworks specified in the Constitutional Declaration as well as the Law on Regulating Political Parties.
They also warned against the continuation of security tensions and cases of violence, noting that they are a natural result of the ongoing deadlock, the lack of progress in the political solution, the persistence of de facto authorities, and the absence of legitimately elected authorities.
The parties that signed the statement stressed that serious and responsible political dialogue between the Libyan parties, and joint cooperation between all Libyan political parties, including parties and civil society institutions, will enable them to contribute to finding solutions that avoid further suffering for the Libyan people, and open new horizons for living in peace and stability.
They stressed the importance of citizens' participation in approving any national political agreement through referendum, which represents a major guarantee for implementing any political agreement, and opens new paths for living in sustainable peace.
