The Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj said in his speech at the UN General Assembly on Thursday that the Government of National Accord (GNA) kept its promise by not allowing the aggressor (Khalifa Haftar) to enter Tripoli, saying his agenda for a military state that is backed by mercenaries would not be permitted.
Al-Sarraj urged the countries supporting Haftar to reconsider their role and work with the GNA, saying the violations of the ceasefire are to blame on Haftar's forces. He added that all parties which have no Libyan blood on their hands should partake in the political process.
Al-Sarraj called on the UN to investigate the violations of Haftar's forces in Sirte, saying a permanent ceasefire in Libya needs Sirte and Jufra to be demilitarized, adding that all of foreign elements and mercenaries should leave Libya.
He also said the GNA needs a strong support from the international community to make the elections in Libya successful as all Libyans are longing for a state of law, democracy and institutions, indicating that the GNA has engaged positively in the UN-led and other peaceful dialogues for a solution in Libya.
