Minister of Local Government/ Head of the Emergency and Rapid Response Team, Badr al-Din al-Toumi, on Monday convened a meeting with the US Agency for International Development (USAID) mission in Libya led by its head John Cadence.

The parties reviewed the executive steps regarding the post-flood recovery and reconstruction operations in Derna and efforts towards restoring peace and normalcy to Murzuq.

Regarding Derna, they followed up on the relevant assessments conducted by the World Bank (WB), while the Libyan side emphasized the importance of the WB cooperating with local technical teams immediately after issuing the initial draft.

Among the principal topics was the situation in Murzuq and the steps taken to rehabilitate the infrastructure to secure a safe and decent return for the displaced.

For his part, Cadence praised the efforts of the Government of National Unity (GNU) towards resolving the difficulties and the progress made in reconstructing the affected cities, according to the Ministry of Local Government.
