The U.S. Embassy in Libya has urged all major Libyan factions to engage constructively with the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to reduce the ongoing tensions in the country.

Marking the first anniversary of the floods that devastated Derna and the Green Mountain region, the embassy stressed the importance of reviving the political process to secure a long-term resolution that guarantees Libya's stability and prosperity.

In a statement Wednesday, the embassy expressed condolences to the families of the flood victims and reaffirmed Washington's commitment to supporting the Libyan people in challenging times.

The statement highlighted the unity demonstrated by the Libyan people in their immediate response to the flood crisis, which affected several communities.

"Libya continues to urgently need unity and transparent, effective management of the resources of the Libyan people," the embassy added.

It further noted that over the past year, the U.S. contributed over $15.7 million to assist Libyan communities affected by the floods, providing food, water, healthcare, protection, shelter, and psychosocial support, vowing to continue efforts towards reconstruction and development.
