The US Agency for International Development has announced the provision of five million US dollars to support Sudanese refugees in Libya due to the ongoing conflict in Sudan and the humanitarian crisis in the country.
The agency revealed, through its website, that it provided the aid in cooperation with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations World Food Program, explaining that this aid will contribute to meeting the emergency needs of Sudanese families who were forced to flee their homes to Libya.
The agency added that the support provided by UNICEF will help thousands of children under the age of five with vital nutritional support, including malnutrition screening and treatment for severe and moderate malnutrition.
The support provided to the World Food Program provides vital food assistance to Sudanese families in order to help them meet their most urgent needs, it added.
The agency commended Libya's efforts to continue hosting refugees from Sudan, calling on other donors to increase their contributions to support those affected by the crisis, whether in Sudan or across the region.
About 2.2 million Sudanese have been forced to flee their country since the start of the crisis, seeking safe havens in regional countries, including Libya.
