Dbeibah

The Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah called for the adoption of a constitution that ends the transitional stages and regulates political life, rejecting what he called the "invention" of new transitional stages.

This came in a speech during a celebration of the 73rd anniversary of Libya's independence, in the capital, Tripoli, during which he called for listening to the will of the people, and for the necessity of putting the constitution to a referendum.

Dbeibah added that the anniversary of independence "always reminds us that we are the sons of one nation whose fate is linked to each other no matter how far the distances are and how different the visions are," continuing that this unity has resisted all conspiracies and is "the strong pillar of this country," adding: "How much money has been spent to strike this unity and how much weapons and ammunition have been sent to divide our entity."

"The Constitution Drafting Assembly finished drafting the constitution officially a long time ago, but the will of the people is still confiscated, and we have the right to ask why is that and  also why the Libyan constitution prepared by the elected committee has disappeared."

Dbeibah accused those he considered to be seeking to ignore the constitution of inventing transitional stages to extend their powers, telling them to take their hands off the draft constitution and to give the decision to the people.

"I send a clear message to all countries that allowed themselves to interfere in our affairs. If some political and military groups allowed our country to be an arena for settling regional and international scores at some point, I say that this era is over, and our country will never again be an arena for conflicts and disputes.” Dbeibah said.
