The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, met on Tuesday with Minister of Labor, Ali Al-Abed, to discuss the outcomes of the labor inspection campaign carried out by the ministry and the possibility of increasing the number of inspectors.

According to a statement by Hakomitna platform, the campaign was conducted through labor offices in the municipalities. On March 13, the Ministry of Labor called on its offices in the municipalities to intensify labor inspection campaigns across all private sector entities in the commercial, industrial, and service sectors.

During the meeting, Dbeibeh and Al-Abed discussed organizing the labor market and the challenges facing inspection committees, in addition to exploring mechanisms to increase the number of labor inspectors in various offices, emphasizing the need for their approval by the Council of Ministers to enhance oversight and address violations.

Dbeibeh was briefed on the progress of inspection committees and mechanisms for regulating the labor market. He stressed the importance of monitoring the work of inspection committees and strengthening cooperation with relevant authorities to intensify inspection campaigns, contributing to organizing the labor market, protecting workers’ rights, and ensuring institutions comply with applicable laws.

The Ministry of Labor said that labor inspection campaigns help improve compliance with occupational safety and health standards, result in a noticeable decrease in violations related to labor contracts and wages of national workers, and accelerate the legal regularization of foreign workers’ status.
