The French Foreign Ministry has stressed the importance of holding the Libyan presidential and legislative elections, to achieve stability and political reconciliation in Libya.

A statement by the ministry said that holding elections comes in line with the will of the Libyan people expressed by the political dialogue forum that was approved by the Security Council, adding that the elections became possible thanks to the progress of the transitional phase at the security and political levels.

It also said that the High National Elections Commission (HNEC) is proceeding with the voting operations with the support of the international community, and confirmed the opening of registration from November 7 to 21, adding that it is up to the commission to announce the next steps for conducting the poll and determining the electoral calendar.

The international conference on Libya to be held in Paris on November 12, which will be co-chaired by France, Italy, Germany and Libya and organized by the United Nations, will help keep Libya on a positive path towards elections, and everyone should respect and accept its outcomes, the statement read.
