The Head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Menfi, called on Saturday for holding national elections in 2025 in accordance with the laws of the 6+6 Electoral Laws Committee formed by the House of Representatives and the High Council of State, after resolving the controversial articles.
Menfi's call came in a series of posts on his account on X, after the successful holding of the first phase of municipal elections.
"The successful experiment of municipal elections motivates us to hold national elections in 2025 in accordance with the laws of the 6+6 Committee after resolving the controversial articles, by granting broader powers to the 5+5 Military Committee and the Security Directorates, with full judicial supervision and international oversight." Menfi said, reaffirming his support for the efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya to end the political deadlock and activate a dialogue between Libyan institutions as a clear and sole criterion that guarantees national ownership of the dialogue and its outcomes.
Menfi said that the unified principle in evaluating the performance of institutions and their legitimacy, as well as the extent of their commitment to the roadmap, was the guarantor of a successful dialogue that could ensure the continuation of the achieved stability.
The Acting UN Envoy Stephanie Koury wants to launch a new initiative aimed at reviving the stalled political process in Libya, in light of the inability of political parties to agree on the steps necessary to move forward in the political process.
