The High Council of State (HCS) rejected Wednesday “the consensual formula” of amending the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA), which was presented by the UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame.
The rejection comes a day after the approval of the formula by the House of Representatives in Tobruk.
In a statement following a regular meeting, the HCS glued to article 12 of the additional provisions of the Libyan Political Agreement, which states that the House of Representatives and State Council shall achieve consensus to agree on LPA amendment.
“The State Council is surprised at the description of the United Nations Support Mission to its head’s proposal as consensual formula”. The statement reads, denying any agreement with the House of Representatives about this formula.
The HCS also stressed that it’s not concerned about the House of Representatives’ vote on the proposal of the UN mission to amend the agreement. It reiterated its proposal to hold early elections within six months under the supervision of a caretaker government of technocrats.
