The Law Enforcement Apparatus announced the seizure of vehicles prepared for smuggling through the Ras Ajdair border crossing with Tunisia, as part of its efforts to combat smuggling in all its forms and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

According to the apparatus, patrols under the General Directorate of Security Operations seized a number of Tunisian vehicles at the Ras Ajdair border crossing. The vehicles’ owners were engaged in smuggling goods and merchandise from Libya, in addition to fuel smuggling through illegally installed tanks in these vehicles.

The apparatus confirmed that all necessary legal measures were taken against the owners of the vehicles, and they were referred to the Ras Ajdair police station in preparation for being presented to the Public Prosecution for further legal action.

The vehicles and seized goods were also impounded and transported to the apparatus headquarters, pending the completion of related legal procedures.

The crackdown comes at a time when a Tunisian court sentenced a Libyan citizen to five years in prison on charges of smuggling subsidized Tunisian couscous.
