The Libyan High Council of State (HCS) has postponed a Saturday session that is supposed to discuss the roadmap agreed upon by the HCS and the House of Representatives (HoR) and the adoption of the constitutional amendment, in addition to the appointment of Fathi Bashagha as new Prime Minister to replace Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah.

The spokesman for the HCS, Mohammed Abdulnasser said the HCS will hold a meeting for heads of committees and the session will be set for another date, according to Libyan News Agency.

The HCS member, Saad bin Sharada, said the reason for the postponement of the session was related to security issues and for the safety of the members, telling reporters that the session was supposed to be for consultation but rumors started to be spread about the session being for voting on constitutional amendment, which he said was untrue.

“The HCS upcoming session won't have any voting or decision but rather only a discussion to appease those against the recent decisions. The recommendations for the Prime Minister [Bashagha] were made after the amendment of the constitution declaration by the HoR.” Sharada added.

Meanwhile, HCS member Naima Al-Hami denied that the HCS had voted for the amendment of Article 12 of the constitution after agreement between the two relevant committees of the HCS and HoR, saying recommendations for the PM-designate Bashagha were made individually without a vote inside the HCS, which will be put to discussion in the upcoming session; she said, adding that a letter by HCS’s Head Khalid Al-Mishri said the delayed session was for discussing the latest constitutional amendment.
