The Minister of Local Governing of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Badr Al-Deen Al-Toumi, announced on Friday evening dispatching relief shipments, containing tents, mattresses, blankets, drinking water and dry food, to the areas affected by heavy rainfall and flash floods, explaining that these shipments are about to reach their destination.

This announcement came during the meeting of the Emergency Committee tasked with responding to the repercussions of rainfall and the flow of floods and valleys in the municipalities of Tahala, Ghat, Barakat and Al-Oweinat, headed by Al-Toumi, and attended by its members from the officials in the sectors and government agencies concerned.

The meeting discussed the committee's work plan regarding assessing the situation, following up on developments, organizing and coordinating response and relief efforts, providing support, and managing information about the damages and impacts resulting from flash floods in the affected municipalities. The meeting focused on identifying response priorities, directing the affiliated bodies to coordinate and manage the operations of providing relief and aid convoys, in addition to delivering them to the actual beneficiaries of the affected population.

Al-Toumi stressed the need to coordinate and unify all efforts at all levels, from rescue operations and sheltering the affected population as well as providing temporary shelters to accommodate them, and working to provide food, water and basic healthcare, in addition to accelerating work to restore electricity and communications network services.

On Friday, the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, announced the formation of an emergency committee to follow up on the situation in the municipality of Ghat and neighboring areas in the southwest of the country, urging for the provision of the necessary support.
