The French lawyer of the Kuwaiti M. A. Kharafi & Sons Company said they dropped the lawsuit filed to confiscate the presidential plane used by Muamar Gaddafi before the February 17 revolution.
According to a document obtained by the French news agency, M. A. Kharafi & Sons Company withdrew the lawsuit on August 25, adding that it will keep the confiscation of other Libyan assets.
The Kuwaiti company went to the courts and filed lawsuits against Libya because Libya had not abode by a 2006-signed contract by Gaddafi’s regime with it. After that, an international court decided in March 2013 that Libya must pay 937 million dollars plus 4% in interests starting from the date of the court order for the company as a compensation.
M. A. Kharafi & Sons Company confiscated the Airbus A340 in 2015 as per the international court order that was delivered in Egypt, however; the Libyan authorities challenged the confiscation in France.
By the end of November 2015, Perpignan court delivered a verdict that ends the confiscation of the Libyan airplane, yet Kharafi & Sons appealed for its case but the court turned it down in February 2016.
The presidential Airbus A340 was in Tripoli during the revolution but was later flown to France in 2012 as part of a maintenance contract with Air France Company.
